Who I Am

Jennifer Wilson is a devoted mother and advocate for mental health awareness. Inspired by her son Benjamin, she created the character Matty to help children and families talk openly about feelings and the ups and downs that can come with bipolar disorder. Jennifer believes in the power of stories to foster understanding, empathy, and hope. When she isn’t writing, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and exploring the outdoors. This is her first children’s book.

About Jennifer Wilson

We care about one thing: making children's books that boost your child, helping them to thrive

Each of our children’s books is planned, written, designed and checked by experts.

Why you should buy?

This story gently explores the challenges children may face when a parent or caregiver is living with mental illness. Through Matty’s eyes, families are invited to talk openly about big emotions, recognize familiar patterns, and discover that hope and love can flourish even in difficult times. Our goal is to give children, parents, and caregivers a starting point for conversations about mental health—especially during periods when a parent or caregiver experiences disturbances in mood due to mental illness.
At Brave Little Minds, we believe every family deserves the support and tools to talk about mental health with honesty and compassion. By sharing our story, we hope to empower others to break the stigma and nurture emotional well-being together.

Our Mission

At Brave Little Minds, our mission is to empower families to talk openly about mental health by providing children, parents, and caregivers with compassionate, relatable stories and practical tools. We strive to foster emotional resilience, kindness, and understanding, helping every child feel seen, supported, and confident in expressing their feelings. By sharing our journey and resources, we aim to reduce stigma, nurture hope, and build a community where love and support flourish—no matter the challenges a family may face.

Our Vision

We aim to grow a meaningful book series that addresses important emotional and mental health topics, such as understanding, family communication, and empathy. We collaborate with mental

health professionals, educators, and therapists to provide additional resources and workshops for families. As we grow, we are passionate about ensuring diverse representation in our books so that every child can see themselves reflected in our stories.

Our Books

We have designed our books to help explain mental illness in families in a safe and supportive manner. Our books provide a gentle introduction to complex mental health topics, such as bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, and others. These books help children better understand mental illness, recognize their emotions, and feel less alone.
Our first book, Mommy’s Big Feelings, Unbreakable Love, is a tale about a child and parent finding their way through the complexities of bipolar disorder together. This book has reduced stigma around mental illness and empowered children to express their feelings, strengthening bonds between children, parents, and caregivers.

The Future of Brave Little Minds

We’ll be continuing our journey by increasing our book series. Each new book will focus on a new mental health topic, providing children and their families a way to find their way through the highs and lows of mental illness.

One of our main aims is to represent diverse family experiences in our books. We strive to ensure that every child can see their own experience reflected in our stories. To achieve this, we are committed to including and representing all children while maintaining a strong focus on diversity.
